Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) Music On the Beat Recommendation Song

The Melody of Dawn: 네시(4 O’CLOCK) – Rap Monster & V

[The song cover]

On behalf of their 4th anniversary, Bangtan Sonyeondan held the annual BTS Festa. This year’s festa was my first time so I can tell that I was extremely excited. I was told that BTS Festa was 2 weeks full of content prepared by the members. The schedule was up around May 30. I didn’t really pay attention to the schedule, but I found myself staying up until 10 p.m (2 hours difference with Korea) every night, anticipating new content.

On June 8, few hours before 10, I read my Twitter timeline. ARMYs was busy making prediction on what 네시 is. I scrolled down more and then I knew that it was soon-to-be-dropped content. ARMYs were intelligent indeed, they predicted that it was RM&V’s song.

At 10 p.m, I refreshed BigHit’s BTS official Twitter account ( @bts_bighit ), there 네시 was dropped. I immediately clicked on the link. I FELL IN LOVE AT THE FIRST 3 SECONDS OF THE SONG.

The song starts with V’s deep voice, followed by guitar and piano. The ‘Where are you, oh you’ part got me like “I’m so soft don’t touch me”. Rapmon’s rap adds more emotion to the song. One more amazing thing is Rapmon’s singing voice! It is raw and sincere.

At the first listen, of course I didn’t know the meaning of the song, but I felt the emotion of the song. The song sounds beautiful and sad. Maybe it is V’s voice or the music, I’m not sure, but it is beautiful and sad. I felt like somehow I could relate. Just like its title, it is the kind of song you would listen when you stay up until dawn thinking about life.

I looked up the meaning on Twitter since some ARMYs had translated it. The song is about, well, dawn, of course. The first line goes like this, “One day, I wrote a long letter to the moon. It would not be brighter than you, but I lighted a small candle” The lyrics are well-written! Looking at the rap verse, the song is about how the writer gathers pieces of him which were scattered on the day, under the moonlight. Through this song, the writer appreciates the blueish moment when the night changes into morning. He adds the moment when he waits for a friend, accompanied by chirping birds.

네시 (4 O’Clock) – Rap Monster & V

Produced by Rap Monster, V

Recording Engineer – RM @ Mon Studio, Slow Rabbit @ Carrot Express

One day, I wrote a long letter to the moon
It’s not as bright as you are
But I lighted a small candle

That nameless bird
Singing in the dusky park
Where are you
Oh you

Why are you crying
It’s just me and you here
Me and you
Oh you

With the deep night
Your voice singing
And step by step
Bringing in the crimson morning

When the dawn passes
When the moon falls asleep
The blue light that was once with me
Will go away

Another day living my live moderately
Keeping my step, moving on moderately with no strength
The sun suffocates me
And the world strips me of all I have
I can’t do anything
But collecting scattered bits of me under the moonlight
I call you moonchild
We are children of the moon
Breathing the cold breath of the dawn
Yes we’re living and dying
At the same time
But you can open your eyes now
Because like the dialogue in a movie
In the moonlight the whole world is blue

That nameless bird
Singing in the dusky park
Where are you
Oh you

Why are you crying
It’s just me and you here
Me and you
Oh you

With the deep night
Your voice singing
And step by step
Bringing in the crimson morning

When the dawn passes
When the moon falls asleep
The blue light that was once with me
Will go away

When the dawn passes
When the moon falls asleep
The blue light that was once with me
Will go away
